“Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!” Red Queen
“Somewhere else” is a part of Midnight in Wonderland abstract series inspired by the hidden depths of a cherished childhood favourites - books about Alice's adventures.
Poor Alice runs until she is breathless, only to discover that the tree she started beside is still there, exactly where it was. It is one of Wonderland’s most absurd rules, and the one most familiar to us and the modern world.
To pause feels risky. To run faster offers no guarantee of arrival. Somewhere between the racing, the moonlit distance and the impossible chequerboard road, the painting asks a very modern Wonderland question: are we moving forward or simply becoming better at running?
This is an Original 16 by 16 inch mixed media & oil painting on a gallery-wrapped canvas. It comes with the wiring on the back and is ready to hang, right out of the box.
