My name is Galina Gumbarova.
I am a mixed-media and oil artist based in London, UK. My original paintings and prints can be ordered here.

My art
Art has always been my passion. I'm drawn to the pieces that provoke intriguing thoughts, strong emotions, memories, inspirations. I hope that my art makes such an impact on my audience as well.
As I've learnt studying at the Milan Art Institute, a great artwork captures your eye from afar, gives a punch as you're coming closer to it, and finally, rewards you with some hidden details that can only be seen at the closest inspection. I aim to apply this wisdom to my works.
My paintings are often inspired by my favourite songs, films, books or poems. I often like to collage music notes and bits of lyrics or quotes onto the canvas - to reward a curious eye with some hidden details and messages to discover and ponder.

My Inspirations
So many things inspire me - stories of emotions, of truth and passion, beauty of people, beauty of nature, philosophical musings and quests for understanding, man-made miracles, space, fantasy, animals, plants, I can go on forever... the file of ideas for the future paintings keeps growing, if only there were enough hours in a day for me!
I love trying new techniques, experimenting with colour, with different media and tools. To allow myself freedom to explore new styles I often create series, where a group of paintings would share a certain vibe, a unique style, and sometimes a colour scheme.
In my studio I tend to work on 3 to 6 paintings at a time, allowing myself to switch between them as mood strikes me. I find such a relaxed approach helps to keep my work fresh and free.

As my name suggests, I was born in Russia. At the tender age of 18 I left home to study at university in America. Since then I tried to visit my big, amazing family and friends in Russia every year - when possible, with my children.
1993 was a very important year for me - this was when my most interesting life adventure started - studying law, politics and business in the States, making friends from all over the world. That was also the year I met my husband.
Long story short(er) - I ended up staying in the US for seven years, working to pay first for my bachelor degree, then for my MBA.

Since 2001, I've been living and working in London -
with my Ukrainian husband and our two (very British!) children.
London never fails to inspire some new ideas, styles and forms for my creations.
I have exhibited and sold my art in many different London venues as a member of Art Societies, as well as at my solo shows.
